A Letter to Chicago K–8 Principals

Dear Principal,

I know what you’re thinking.

Since you’re on this page, you’re digging deep. You want to know if this Scott Green guy can deliver an impactful, educational assembly program. One that’s worth pulling kids out of class.

In short, you want to know if my programs are truly educational. Or if I’m another in a long line of assembly presenters who get your students whipped up into a frenzy and then leave, letting your faculty deal with the carnage in their wake.

That’s why I’m writing this note to you. To let you know I understand your concerns. And that everything I do is designed to make hosting my educational school assemblies easy and fun. I’ll start with the content of my programs.

School assemblies that educate and entertain

I design my assemblies to work hand-in-hand with the educational messages and standards your students encounter in the classroom. Your teachers will appreciate seeing the children riveted and responding to the concepts in my programs.

But at the same time, my content is not boring. Using fun, eye-popping magic, I’ll hold your students’ attention from the beginning to the end, guaranteed. But that’s still not all.

To explain, I’ll have to tell you about a pet peeve of mine.

I can’t stand what many assembly presenters do. They’ll do a magic trick and say, “Ta-da! Wasn’t that great? Now let’s talk about reading…” The educational content is an afterthought, a non-sequitur. They need some tortured segue to connect the fun stuff to the educational content.

That’s not how I do it. The magic IS the educational content. In “Engineering the Impossible,” the whole point is that the children are learning the STEM concepts that make the magic happen. I pull back the curtain and what they see is technology and numbers.

Of course, as you’re reading this, you might also be wondering, “Can Scott hold the attention of the older kids?”

Yes, I can. My school assembly programs are suitable for primary, elementary, middle, and junior high schools. That’s a wide age range, but I alter how I deliver the material to fit the audience. With me, you’ll never have to worry about ‘losing’ the younger grades. Or seeing your eighth graders sitting with bored expressions on their faces.

The easiest-to-work-with assembly performer your school will host

I don’t require any assistance from your custodial staff. Everything I need to put on a great assembly is with me. And my shows set up fast. I arrive at your school about 30 minutes before showtime. My actual setup time is under 15 minutes, usually closer to 10.

Where will you have me perform? Your school’s gym? Your cafeteria? Your multi-purpose room? It doesn’t matter. I can deliver a stellar program in any environment found in the typical school. Quality assembly programs are not always this flexible.

I also handle my own technical needs. I bring and set up my own sound system so everyone can hear me clearly.

Finally, there’s the post-show arrangements. After the assembly is over, the area may be reserved for other activities. Gym classes. Lunch periods. School dismissal. Band or chorus practice. None of those activities will be affected by post-show cleanup. I’ll be packed up and ready to leave in about five minutes.

And once again, I don’t need anything from your staff.
